Hagrid. The huge half-giant Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts
 |
Hagrid
Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of the Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts, one of Harry's closest friends. Hagrid is a half giant, on
his mother's side and is almost twice as tall as a normal man, simply too big to be allowed. He is a very kind, very
honest person despite being very physically imposing. When roused, he can be as fearsome an enemy as he is a good friend.
Hagrid takes care of all of Hogwarts outside of its walls, including the lake and the forbidden forest. Several times now
Hagrid has taught the Care of Magical Creatures class, and though while there can be few professors more knowledgeable on
the subject, his teaching skills are not quite as good as they might be. Hagrid has a liking for dangerous magical beasts,
and in Harry's first year he manages to aquire a genuine dragon egg which he hatches in his hut. He names the small,
vicious fire breathing reptile Norbert. Other pets of Hagrid's include Fang, his big, soppy hunting dog, Aragog, ancestor
of a huge nest of giant spiders in the forest, the Thestrals which pull the coaches at Hogwarts and the illegally cross
bred Blast-Ended Skrewts.
Hagrid is a useful member of the Order of the Phoenix, and as such was sent to try rallying the giants against Voldemort.
Unfortunately the attempt was aborted after an ill timed coup which resulted in the former leader of the giants being
relieved of his head. He was accompanied on the mission by Madame Olympe Maxime, Headmistress of Beauxbatons school of
magic, with whom he seems to be quite taken. Before returning to Hogwarts, he also picked up his mother's other son, Grawp.
Grawp is a full blooded giant, although quite small for the race, and Hagrid has secreted him deep in the Forbidden Forest.
