Matt was born on June 27, 1989 to Adrian and Lynda, who is also his PA and chaperone. He lives in Leeds, West Yorkshire and attends St Mary's Comprehensive School in Menston. He started acting at the age of 5 years in a TV drama called Some Kind of Life, which starred Jane Horrocks, he played her son Johnathan. He went on to make a number of TV appearances including "Where the Heart Is", "City Central", "Big Bag" and "Heartbeat" before his big break came in 2001 when he was cast to play Neville Longbottom in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone".
Matthew took up the role again in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" the following year. He had slimmed down a lot during the filming of the two films and they had to stuff his cheeks with cotton to make them appear fatter during some scenes! He took up the role again in the next two Harry Potter films. In the break between filming the third and fourth instalments, Matthew Lewis appeared as the special Harry Potter guest at the Armageddon Sci-Fi and Comics Convention in Auckland, New Zealand. He will play Neville again in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but says he does not know about later films.
In his spare time he like playing and watching football, and his favourite favourite team are Leeds United. He also enjoys watching Super League (rugby) his favourite team being Leeds Rhino's. Matthew Lewis is also into music and like lots of bands such as Greenday, Redhot Chilli Peppers, The Strokes, The Killers, Guns n Roses, and Velvet Revolver. As well as sport and music his interests include computer games, his favourite games at the moment are Tiger Woods PGA Tour, FIFA Football, Pro Evolution Soccer, Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty.
Matthew Lewis also likes reading, Darren Shan & J K Rowling are his favourite authors. After he read the first book of Harry Potter, he would dress up as Harry and run around his room, this was before he got the part of Neville! The acting gene runs in the family as his older brother Anthony is also an actor, he recently finished a three & half year spell playing Marc Reynolds on a soap called Emmerdale. Like Matthew he also started acting while he was still at school.
