Joshua Herdman was born in Hampton, England on September 9, 1987. He is the youngest of four boys and attended Orleans Park School, a comprehensive school located in Twickenham. He started acting when he was about seven, his father was an actor and got him an agent. He got his big break when he auditioned for "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and got the part of Gregory Goyle.
The Gregory Goyle role that Joshua Herdman plays in the Harry Potter films is one of a bully. Goyle, along with Crabbe is one of Draco Malfoy's bodyguards and would be ready to fight for him at any time. He is one of Harry Potter's enemies at Hogwarts and like Draco, and Crabbe he is in Slytherin house (the rival house to Harry's). He is very thick and does very poorly at school. He is ruthless, and liked by nobody but Draco, who sees him only as a useful person to protect him when he provokes people.
"Before filming starts, I think of horrible stuff, things that make me angry, to get in the mood. That's really all my part consists of...putting on an angry face," was Joshs' response to how he gets ready for his part as Goyle. Playing such an unpopular character makes him a figure of hate for some Harry Potter fans, "In the street, I have received quite a few boos, and hisses a couple of times."
Even though people may know him best for being the bully in the Harry Potter films, Joshua Herdman also plays Ben on the BBC show "UGetMe" and also played the title role in the 2002 film, Thunderpants. In his spare time, he enjoys going back home to St. Margarets and hanging out with friends. He likes going to the cinema, and listening to rap music and also writes movie scripts and makes short films. You wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him as Josh regularly boxes, but he shows his gentler side when playing with his chocolate brown Labrador, Dylan.
