Indie rocker Jarvis Cocker has been signed up to provide the soundtrack to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The singer was approached by movie bosses to provide the score to the fourth movie in the series after new director Mike Newell insisted he wanted a modern artist for the position. A source at Warner Bros told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Everyone here is really excited about Jarvis Cocker being involved. He is a very talented musician who is a big fan of movies and knows exactly how they work. "You may just think Jarvis is the bloke in specs who fronted Pulp but he is a man with hidden depths."
Jarvis Cocker was born September 10, 1963 in Sheffield.Cocker's estranged father, Mac Cocker, left the family when Jarvis was a child and emigrated to Australia, where he became a well-known disk jockey in Sydney on alternative rock radio station 2JJ (Double Jay) in the late 1970s.
Jarvis founded Arabicus Pulp at the age of 15 whilst he was still at school. After numerous lineup changes, and a shortening of the name to just Pulp, they shot to fame in the 1990s with the great commercial success of the albums His and Hers (1994) and Different Class (1995). He famously invaded the stage at the 1996 Brit Awards to protest against Michael Jackson's performance. Although arrested and taken from the hall by the police, he was not prosecuted.
After two more albums (This Is Hardcore and We Love Life), neither of which achieved the commercial or critical success of earlier works, Pulp released a greatest hits album and went on hiatus. Jarvis Cocker moved to Paris with his wife, Camille Bidault-Waddington, with whom he has a son, Albert. Cocker also directed some music videos, most notably On by Aphex Twin and Aftermath by Nightmares on Wax.
He re-emerged in 2003 to promote a new album, under the pseudonym "Darren Spooner", for his new band called Relaxed Muscle. 2004 then brought Jarvis Cocker briefly back into the limelight with two collaborations with Nancy Sinatra on her new album.
As well as writing songs and scores Jarvis Cocker will also be responsible for choosing all other additional music for the movie, he has already picked Franz Ferdinand to provide a track. They are also confirmed to make an appearance as the 'wyrd sisters' while Jarvis is also rumoured to play a small cameo in the film, although it is not yet known who he will play.
