It makes sense that a French actress would be playing Fleur Delacour, student of the French counterpart of Hogwarts, "Beauxbaton." Clemence Poesy was born in Paris in 1982, she started acting around the age of 14 after gaining encouragement from her father, who is a theatre director and actor. At age 16, after finishing school, she hired an agent and started studying acting.
Clemence Poesy has appeared in a number of French films and TV programmes. However recently she has starred in English speaking productions such as the BBC mini-series, "Gunpowder, Treason, and Plot", where she played the role of Mary Queen of Scots. Her last project was the TV mini series Revelations.
Clemence Poesy's character, Fleur is from France, though she is capable of speaking fluent English, albeit with a strong accent. She's approximately three years Harry's senior, which would place her birth on 1977. Her highly beautiful looks are in stark contrast to her arrogant and snooty attitude. Her name comes from the French phrase fleur de la cour, meaning "flower of the court" or, according to J. K. Rowling, "noblewoman."
