Christopher William Rankin was born on November 8th, 1983 in Auckland, New Zealand. He lived in Rothesay Bay, NZ until he was six. In 1990 he moved, with his parents to Norfolk, UK, where he still lives with his mum. Chris found his love for the stage during his schooldays at Northgate High School, East Dereham, in Nofolk, and as a member of the Youth Theatre Company of Dereham Operatic Society.
At Northgate, he played various roles in Bugsy Malone, and Little Shop of Horrors (also on a European tour). He also appeared as Bosun in Return to the Forbidden Planet, Roger in Grease, Ralph in The Lord of the Flies, Joseph in Jospeh and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and in 2003 made a last-minute appearance as Thenardier in Les Miserables: Student Version when a cast member was taken ill.
With the Youth Theatre, Chris Rankin has played Edmund in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; chorus roles in My Fair Lady, Whistle Down the Wind and The King and I; Harry / Young Ebeneezer in Scrooge and Ugly HONK!
Chris Rankin's dream came true when he was cast in the role of Percy Weasley in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in August 2000, reprising the role in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Since then, he has been splitting his time between working on the films, his studies and now his stage career, (Chris made his professional stage debut in Jack and the Beanstalk at Norwich Theatre Royal two years ago).
In January 2004 Chris formed Painted Horse Theatre Company with Director Jim Rymer. He played Eilert Loevborg in their premeire production of Hedda Gabler by Ibsen and worked on their production of Salome which toured East Anglia in 2005. Chris Rankin recently made his first Television drama, he played Waring in The Rotter's Club, a 3-part drama produced by Company Pictures for the BBC.
In his spare time, Chris enjoys watching films, going to the theatre, seeing his friends as much as possible, singing very loudly and travelling (but not at the same time!) He lists Aerosmith, The Darkness, Queen, REM, and Blur amongst his favourite bands.
